Moscow Slams Western Media Domination, Warns Information Space Has Become Military Battleground

Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova has sharply criticized Western governments for transforming the global media landscape into a military confrontation zone aimed at suppressing dissenting viewpoints and imposing a single narrative.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Maria Zakharova, the official spokesperson for the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, highlighted the evolving nature of information warfare in recent remarks coinciding with the International Day to End Impunity for Crimes against Journalists.

Zakharova asserted that Western administrations routinely deploy a wide array of coercive instruments to stifle alternative perspectives and dictate their own interpretation of global events to international audiences. She further expressed deep dissatisfaction regarding the passive stance maintained by various international organizations in the face of actions taken by the West and its allies against Russian media outlets operating within Ukraine, Moldova, and the Baltic states.

Emphasizing Moscow’s unwavering commitment to the safety and security of media personnel, the senior Russian diplomat stated that her country will rigorously pursue its demands through UNESCO and other international forums without backing down. The United Nations General Assembly established November 2 as the International Day to End Impunity for Crimes against Journalists on December 18, 2013, with the core objective of drawing global public attention to violence against reporters and emphasizing the critical need to prosecute and penalize the perpetrators of such crimes.
