Ehud Barak Warns Netanyahu Seeks Perpetual War for Political Survival

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak stated in an article published by the Hebrew-language newspaper Maariv that escalating threats against Iran go far beyond mere security considerations.
Highlighting Benjamin Netanyahu’s efforts to entangle the Zionist regime in a new conflict, Barak warned that failing in this trajectory would carry severe consequences and ultimately benefit Tehran.
Expressing grave concern over Netanyahu’s political maneuvers to retain power, Barak noted that no objective data justifies an immediate military action against Iran prior to the formation of a new cabinet within the next six to eight weeks.
The Israeli politician further explained that engineering such a fabricated war could create a state of emergency in the occupied territories, thereby disrupting the swearing-in procedures of Knesset members. According to Barak, wartime conditions grant the government the authority to restrict public gatherings, and a pre-arranged security scenario—which Iran would consider a legitimate target—could facilitate the cancellation of the Knesset swearing-in ceremony. This process would likely amplify demands for a unity government and plunge the political structure into chaos.
Regarding efforts to forge an alternative coalition, Barak pointed out that the paramount promise of the change coalition is to oust Netanyahu from power. Any competing pledge that conflicts with this core objective must take a back seat.
In the concluding part of his remarks, Barak offered a sharp critique, asserting that the issue of war with Iran must be handed over to a new cabinet that bears no responsibility for the October 7 operations. He questioned the credibility of leadership, noting that someone who claims the ability to overthrow the Iranian government in a matter of days has failed over three years to dismantle Hamas or prevent its governance in Gaza. Netanyahu has repeatedly promised that total victory is just one step away, yet he has no comprehension of how to end wars and requires perpetual war to distract the public from his controversial record.
