US House Republicans Weigh Impeachment of Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth Over Iran Strategy

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, high-ranking Republican officials in the House of Representatives are gearing up to hold an impeachment vote concerning U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth. This significant political development stems from the fallout of his high-expense military offensive against Iran and the severe electoral consequences faced by the Republican Party following the U.S. midterm elections.
Axios reported that Republican lawmakers who suffered heavy defeats in the midterms have little left to lose and are increasingly inclined to support Hegseth’s impeachment. Public approval for the Defense Secretary has reportedly plummeted since the inception of the hostilities against Iran.
The media outlet further noted that former Republican Representative Don Bacon of Nebraska stated in an interview with Fox News that Hegseth lacks favorable standing within Congress. In addition, Republican Representative Thomas Massie of Kentucky has planned to bring forward an impeachment resolution against Hegseth, citing defiance of Congress and the unlawful continuation of the U.S. military engagement against Iran. Prior to the elections, Republican leadership had stymied this move when House Speaker Mike Johnson halted the proposed vote and sent lawmakers home early.
Earlier, CNN reported that the House of Representatives could vote in favor of ousting Hegseth in the coming weeks, with a faction of Republicans prepared to support the measure. Representative Thomas Massie previously emphasized that he would pursue the matter aggressively, stating he would only relent if Hegseth resigned from his position.
The news network also highlighted that certain members of the Republican Party hold Hegseth directly responsible for faulty strategic assessments regarding the ongoing conflict with Iran.
