The Badr parliamentary bloc has voiced its decisive opposition to Washington’s ongoing pressure aimed at sealing the borders between Iraq and Iran, calling for the immediate and unconditional reopening of these vital crossings.

Highlighting recent statements made by the Iraqi Foreign Minister regarding demands from the United States, the political faction warned that such agendas target southern regions and constitute a blatant violation of national sovereignty.

Iraqi national movements and local citizens have firmly declared that they will not remain silent in the face of any infringement upon national sovereignty or submission to foreign dictates that contradict the country’s interests. Rejecting punitive approaches, the bloc emphasized that the enduring relations between Baghdad and Tehran are deeply rooted, having been forged through shared sacrifices and cooperation during the joint struggle against terrorism.

Furthermore, the parliamentary group denounced the continued pressure on border crossings in the southern provinces as an unacceptable double standard that requires urgent reconsideration. It urged the Iraqi cabinet to act without delay to reopen closed checkpoints, prioritizing public welfare and national independence over external demands.

In a related development, residents of Maysan Governorate staged multiple street protests to voice their anger over the closure of the Chazabeh border crossing, demanding the swift removal of restrictions on the route.
