The beginning of the investigation of the US State Department regarding the suspension of Robert Mali

Citing a letter to Congress on January 23, the Semaphore news site reported that the US State Department’s inspector general is investigating the suspension last year of Robert Maley, the country’s special envoy for Iran affairs.

Based on this report, the Inspector General of the US State Department started an internal investigation in this regard.

Ryan Holden, director of congressional and public affairs for the inspector general, announced that the scope of the special investigation into Robert Mali’s license suspension will include the procedures the department used to suspend the license. In this review, the officials who were involved in the financial suspension decision are investigated.

Robert Mali was suspended in April 2023 for possible misuse of classified information. He, who has been removed from his position as Iran’s special envoy in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, will teach the courses “Foreign Policy Decision Making” and “Diplomacy” as a visiting professor and lecturer at Princeton University’s School of International Relations. He will teach a graduate course on foreign policy decision-making last fall, and will teach one to two undergraduate courses in the spring focusing on a combination of diplomacy, negotiation, and foreign policy.
