Ireland’s decision to participate in South Africa’s complaint against Israel

The vice president of Ireland announced that he has ordered the lawyers of the country's government to investigate the genocide in Gaza.

The English newspaper Independent reported on Wednesday that Ireland is preparing to participate in the South African genocide case against the Zionist regime at the United Nations High Court.

According to this newspaper report, Irish Vice President Michael Martin said that after considering whether Ireland was able to intervene, he was informed that there was a basis for doing so.

He added that he had instructed his legal staff to pursue “legal intervention” in the South African case at the International Court of Justice. Martin went on to note that he was asking for very serious legal work because the tests applied under the genocide convention have a low threshold.

According to him, once South Africa files its case and further legal work is completed, the case will be returned to the government for a formal decision.

Martin also pointed out that the rapidly deteriorating situation in Gaza has now become a humanitarian disaster, stating that the most important necessities of life are being prevented from entering Gaza, and this is a great loss and destruction for the people and residents of Gaza. .

It is worth noting that on January 26, 2024, in response to the case filed by South Africa in December 2023, the International Court of Justice ordered the Zionists to take measures to prevent genocide against Palestinians and improve the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip.
