Moscow: We will not accept Ukraine joining NATO under any circumstances
Russia's ambassador to America says that Washington practically refuses to listen to Moscow's positions on Ukraine's possible accession to NATO. |
reported by Mehr News Agency quoted by Tass, Anatoly Antonov, the American ambassador to Russia, pointed out that Moscow strongly rejects the possible joining of Ukraine to NATO, and said that America practically ignores this position of Russia.
Antonov emphasized: Washington absolutely refuses to listen to statements related to our firm opposition to Kyiv’s membership in the North Atlantic Treaty. All this while the Russian side informed the Westerners of its proposals on security guarantees in December 2021.
The senior Russian diplomat stated: Ukraine’s entry into NATO is not acceptable to us under any circumstances. This issue is a threat to the national security of Russia. Only politicians for whom Russia’s fundamental interests are unimportant can expect us to accept Ukraine’s accession to this coalition that is hostile to us.
Matthew Miller, the spokesman of the US State Department, said at a press conference yesterday that Ukraine’s accession to NATO will be possible after the current war in the country is resolved.
Ukraine requested immediate NATO membership in September 2022, and at the July 2023 summit of the US-led military alliance in Vilnius, they were assured that after meeting the necessary conditions, This annexation will be realized, but no timetable has been set for it.
