In his call with Blinken, Wang emphasized Iran’s sovereignty

In a phone call with his American counterpart, the Chinese Foreign Minister condemned the recent attack on the Iranian consulate in Syria.

China’s Foreign Ministry announced Friday that Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi had a telephone conversation with US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken. Wang condemned the recent attack on the Iranian consulate in Syria and “stressed that the security of diplomatic institutions should not be violated and the sovereignty of Iran and Syria should be respected.”

The ministry said the call was made by Washington, and AFP reported that Blinken wanted China to help ease tensions between Iran and Israel.

In recent days, Iran has repeatedly threatened Israel with a retaliatory attack and holds it responsible for the attack on the consulate. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Mao Ning said Beijing will “continue to play a constructive role in solving the West Asia issue” and stressed that the United States “should also play a constructive role”.

Some time ago, the Israeli army attacked the Iranian consulate in the vicinity of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s embassy in Damascus, the capital of Syria, from the occupied Golan region. In this attack, the building of the Iranian consulate in Damascus was completely destroyed and Generals Ahmad Reza Zahedi and Haji Rahimi, one of Iran’s military advisors in Syria, were martyred along with five Iranian officers.
