Dam breaking in Kenya with 49 dead and 109 injured

Kenya announced that 49 people died and 109 were hospitalized after a dam broke in the west of the country.

reported Mehr News Agency, citing CNN, Kenya’s Ministry of Interior announced this Monday morning (local time) that 45 people were killed after a dam collapsed in western Kenya and cut off a main road.

According to this media, dozens of people were also missing in this incident.

Stephen Karwayi, a police official, told the Associated Press news agency: The old Kijabe dam, located in the Mai Mahio area of ​​the Great Rift Valley region, had a breach. And the water flowed downstream.

Images sent by the media show that cars were stuck in the mud on one of the busiest highways in Kenya, and rescuers treated the injured; Because the water has flooded large areas.

Kenya Red Cross said that 109 people have been hospitalized so far and 49 people are missing.

Rescue teams are searching through the mud to find survivors.
