45 dead and dozens missing after the refugee boat overturned on the coast of Djibouti

At least 45 people died when boats carrying African refugees and migrants sank off the coast of Djibouti.

report Mehr News Agency Citing Al Jazeera, the International Organization for Migration announced that after two boats carrying African migrants and refugees capsized and sank in Djibouti coast, at least 45 people were killed and dozens are missing.

According to this organization, these boats left Yemen with 310 passengers and sank in the Red Sea. The organization also said that local rescue operations are underway and will support them.

The Coast Guard of Djibouti also announced the ongoing joint rescue operation and according to them, 115 people have been rescued. These boats had an accident and sank at a distance of 150 meters from the coast near “Khor Angar” area in the northwest of Djibouti.

According to the data of the International Organization for Migration, in 2023 about 400 thousand people from a route along the Horn of Africa to Saudi Arabia They crossed and about 700 of them were killed or missing. The number of people killed or missing on this route from 2014 to 2023 was announced to be around 1,000.
