Trump Appoints Special Envoy to Greenland, Calls It Strategic for National Security

U.S. President Donald Trump has appointed Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry as America’s special envoy to Greenland, reaffirming the island’s strategic importance amid rising geopolitical tensions in the Arctic.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, U.S. President Donald Trump has named Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry as America’s special envoy to Greenland, emphasizing the island’s critical role in national security and mineral resources. Trump described Greenland as a vital strategic location and reiterated his push for U.S. military control over the territory.

President Trump stated, ‘Jeff understands Greenland’s importance to our national security and will advance our country’s interests while ensuring the security of our allies and the world.’ Governor Landry, in a post on social media platform X, expressed his honor in voluntarily serving in this role, declaring his intent to make Greenland ‘part of U.S. soil.’ He assured that his duties as Louisiana’s governor would remain unaffected.

Greenland’s autonomous government and Denmark have firmly rejected any sale of the island, condemning reports of U.S. security activities in the region. Russia and several European nations have also opposed American efforts to expand influence in Greenland. Meanwhile, Denmark’s Defense Intelligence Service warned in a recent report that competition among China, Russia, and the U.S. for Arctic influence has intensified significantly.
