Gaza Population Declines by 10.6% Over Two Years Amid Ongoing Conflict, Reports Palestinian Statistics Bureau

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics has revealed a stark 10.6% decrease in Gaza‘s population over the past two years, with the enclave’s current population standing at 2.13 million. The report highlights the devastating human toll of the ongoing conflict, with over 72,000 fatalities recorded since the Israeli offensive began on October 7, 2023, 98% of which occurred in Gaza.
The comprehensive report underscores the long-term demographic and developmental impacts of the conflict, with approximately 100,000 Palestinians forced to flee Gaza and around 2 million displaced from their homes. The total Palestinian population in the region is estimated at 5.56 million, with 3.43 million residing in the West Bank and 1.86 million in the territories occupied since 1948.
The healthcare system in Gaza has nearly collapsed, with 94% of medical facilities damaged or destroyed, leaving only 19 of 36 hospitals partially operational. Severe shortages of medical supplies, exhausted healthcare workers, and frequent fuel cuts for generators have exacerbated the crisis. Additionally, 60,000 pregnant women face serious health risks due to inadequate medical services, and 70% of Gaza’s population relies on contaminated or unsafe drinking water.
The education sector has also suffered unprecedented destruction, with 179 government schools completely demolished and 218 others bombed or damaged.
