ISIS Attack on Syrian Security Forces in Raqqa Leaves One Dead, One Injured

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Syrian sources have reported intense clashes between elements of the terrorist group ISIS and security forces in the city of Raqqa. These confrontations erupted following an ISIS attack on a security checkpoint located at the western entrance of the city.
A security source, speaking to Syrian television, stated that the Al-Sabahia checkpoint attack resulted in the death of one security force member and the injury of another. The source also confirmed the death of one of the ISIS attackers, who was reportedly wearing an explosive belt and carrying grenades. Further details regarding the incident have not yet been released by Syrian television.
This attack occurs in the wake of a previous statement issued by ISIS, which declared the new Syrian government as “secular and apostate” and deemed warfare against it a religious obligation. In an audio file attributed to its spokesperson, Abu Hudhayfah al-Ansari, the group threatened Syrian leaders, asserting that the current Syrian regime is under the complete influence of the United States and its Western allies. The recent military movements in Syria were characterized as a performance orchestrated by the U.S.
The ISIS group seized large parts of Iraq in 2014 but was ultimately defeated in 2017. In Syria, the group collapsed in 2019. However, its dormant cells continue to pose a threat to regional security through sporadic attacks. In light of recent political developments, these cells appear to be seeking to re-emerge as active players.
