Spain Recalls Ambassador, Downgrades Diplomatic Mission in Israel

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Spanish newspaper El País reported on Wednesday that Madrid has recalled its ambassador to Tel Aviv and downgraded its diplomatic representation in occupied territories.
The newspaper detailed that this decision was made during the latest cabinet meeting, meaning Spain has officially summoned its head of diplomatic mission from Tel Aviv and reduced its representation level in occupied territories to charge d’affaires.
Relations between Spain and the Israeli regime have recently been fraught with significant tensions. Madrid’s principled stances condemning Israel’s violations of Palestinian rights and its condemnation of aggression against Iran have drawn the ire of Tel Aviv.
Following Spain’s announcement in May 2024 to officially recognize the state of Palestine, Israel recalled its ambassador from Madrid and has since reduced its diplomatic representation to the charge d’affaires level.
