Brent Crude Surpasses $97 Amid Rising Regional Tensions

Brent crude oil prices climbed above $97 per barrel on Wednesday, reflecting heightened tensions in the Persian Gulf and recent retaliatory actions between the United States and Iran.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Brent crude oil prices surpassed the $97 per barrel mark today, Wednesday, driven by recent regional developments and increased tensions in the Persian Gulf. Data published by Mehr News Agency indicates a 1.07 percent rise, bringing the price to $97.11 per barrel.

The August 2026 Brent crude futures contract also experienced a price increase today. This price surge comes in the wake of recent incidents where an oil tanker and a telecommunications mast were targeted by American military projectiles. In response, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps launched missile and drone attacks against the U.S. Fifth Fleet.

Published data shows that Brent crude, which had been fluctuating between $95 and $97 in recent days, reacted to the on-the-ground developments by crossing the $97 threshold today. Analysts believe that any escalation of tensions in the region that threatens the security of oil transit will rapidly impact the global energy market and lead to price increases.

Meanwhile, the Strait of Hormuz remains under the control of Iran’s armed forces. Any U.S. action to traverse this strategic passage will be met with a decisive response from the Islamic Republic of Iran, a situation that has kept global energy markets in a sensitive and on-alert state.
