CNN Claims Israel Deployed Forces to Azerbaijan During War with Iran

CNN has reported, citing informed sources, that Israel secretly dispatched elite military and intelligence units to Azerbaijan during its conflict with Iran. These deployments are allegedly part of a clandestine network of Israeli bases across the region used to facilitate operations against Tehran.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, CNN reported, citing informed sources, that the Israeli regime secretly deployed elite military and intelligence units to the Republic of Azerbaijan during its war with Iran. This action is presented as part of a network of secret Israeli bases across the Middle East utilized to facilitate operations against Iran.

Two informed sources indicated that these forces operated from several points in southern Azerbaijan, adjacent to Iran’s northern border, at their closest point approximately 60 miles (about 96 kilometers) from Iran’s Tabriz, a city targeted by Israel during the conflict. The American media outlet claimed that two other sources stated special commando units were stationed in these areas, conducting intelligence gathering and drone operations. This reportedly provided Israel with valuable oversight of northern Iran throughout the war.

CNN asserted that the covert deployment of Israeli forces in Azerbaijan was one of several Israeli military positions across the Middle East that granted the army operational access, suggesting that Iran’s neighboring countries, some with permission and others possibly without, played a role in facilitating operations against Tehran and engaging in this conflict. According to sources, these bases in Azerbaijan were part of a series of facilities and secret bases in various countries, including Iraq, the United Arab Emirates, and Somaliland. These forces were initially planned as potential emergency rescue teams, but their mission scope gradually expanded to include military and intelligence positions.

The American media outlet claimed that these deployments collectively positioned Israeli forces around southern, western, and northern Iran during the war, extending their operational range hundreds of miles into Iranian territory. These forward positions reportedly helped Israel maintain frequent waves of attacks against various targets across the country. According to one source, the Azerbaijan operation involved several dozen personnel, including members of Israeli special operations forces, an elite combat and air rescue unit, and Mossad operatives.

A spokesperson for the Azerbaijani Embassy in the United States issued a statement refuting these claims, stating, “We firmly reject baseless allegations regarding the use of the Republic of Azerbaijan’s territory for operations against third countries.”
