Israel Supreme Court Rejects Appeal for Release of Detained Palestinian Doctor

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, The Israeli Supreme Court has rejected an appeal for the release of Dr. Abu Safiya, who has been detained since the Israeli army’s attack on Kamal Adwan Hospital in the Gaza Strip in late 2024. Haaretz newspaper reported that the court’s decision means Abu Safiya will continue to be held in custody. The Palestinian physician has been detained for over 500 days without formal charges since his arrest by the Israeli army during the seizure of Kamal Adwan Hospital. He is currently held in solitary confinement at Nafha Prison in southern Israel, conditions described as harsh by legal experts. Haaretz anticipates that Abu Safiya’s detention will continue for at least four more months following the rejection of his appeal by Supreme Court Justice Gila Canfy-Steinitz, with no explanation provided for the ruling. The Israeli army arrested Abu Safiya on December 27, 2024, during an operation at Kamal Adwan Hospital amidst the regime’s war against Gaza. No comments have yet been issued by Abu Safiya’s defense team or any Israeli officials regarding the Hebrew newspaper’s report.
