US Vice President Vance Arrives in Switzerland for Iran-US Talks Centered on Lebanon

U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance has arrived in Switzerland to commence a new round of negotiations between Washington and Tehran, with the situation in Lebanon, amid repeated Israeli aggressions, identified as the primary focus.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance has arrived in Switzerland to participate in the opening of a new round of negotiations between Washington and Tehran. The agenda for this round of talks is primarily centered on the issue of Lebanon, in light of repeated aggressions by the Israeli regime.

CNN, citing an informed diplomat, reported that an emergency session dedicated to the developments in Lebanon has been placed at the very beginning of the talks’ agenda, making it the first topic for discussion between the American and Iranian delegations.

Before departing for Switzerland, Vance stated that achieving progress towards a ceasefire in Lebanon is one of the main priorities of the negotiations. These remarks followed the resumption of missile attacks by the Israeli regime on Lebanese territory.

An Iranian official informed the American network that ending the conflict in Lebanon is the most important item on the Iranian delegation’s agenda.

These negotiations are taking place following the framework understanding signed between the United States and Iran last week. Both sides are set to pursue a final agreement on regional issues within a 60-day timeframe, which will have far-reaching implications for regional security and the global economy.

However, the path of negotiations faces increasing challenges due to the intensification of the Israeli regime’s aggressions in southern Lebanon and tensions related to the Strait of Hormuz.

Vance was scheduled to arrive in Switzerland on Friday, but his trip was delayed due to the evolving security situation in Lebanon and the postponement of the Iranian delegation’s participation.

The Iranian delegation includes Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, the Speaker of Parliament, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, and officials from the Central Bank and the oil sector. On the American side, besides Steve Witkoff, the U.S. Envoy, and Jared Kushner, Trump’s representative, Vice President J.D. Vance is also attending the negotiations. Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Army Chief General Asim Munir, along with Qatari mediators, are participating in these sessions.
