Turkey Urges Restraint on Israel to Protect Iran-US Understanding, Cites Gaza Crisis

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has called for preventing Israel from disrupting the understanding reached between Iran and the United States, emphasizing the need for careful action amid escalating tensions in Gaza and the West Bank.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan described the agreement between Iran and the United States, which has led to a ceasefire, as a significant step, noting that its extension to Lebanon would be a positive development. Speaking at a joint press conference in Ottawa with Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand, Fidan stressed that Israel should not be allowed to interfere with the negotiation process and urged global public opinion and all parties involved to act with precision, caution, and wisdom.

Fidan expressed hope that the parties would continue their constructive approach and reach an agreement on outstanding issues as soon as possible. The Turkish Foreign Minister also highlighted the critical importance of maintaining freedom of navigation and unimpeded passage through the Strait of Hormuz under the current circumstances. He reiterated Ankara’s readiness to support the negotiation process between Iran and the United States.

Addressing developments in Gaza, Fidan warned that the region remains in a highly sensitive and fragile state and should not be neglected. He stated that despite international efforts, Israel has not fulfilled its commitments, and the prevention of humanitarian aid from entering Gaza has worsened the situation. The Turkish Foreign Minister added that Israel continues to expand its military presence and increase pressure on civilians, contrary to the terms of the ceasefire.

Fidan pointed to the increase in attacks by settlers in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, characterizing these actions as a serious threat to achieving lasting peace. He concluded by stating that his consultations with the Canadian Foreign Minister reaffirmed the shared stance of both countries on resolving the Palestinian issue through a just and sustainable two-state solution.
