Israeli Army Denies Withdrawal Plans from Lebanon, Cites Security Framework

Israeli media reports indicate the Israeli army has received no orders to withdraw from any areas in Lebanon, amidst claims of a secret security annex to a framework agreement with Lebanon and a push for new security realities in southern Lebanon.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Israeli media outlets are reporting that the Israeli army has not received any directives to withdraw from any regions within Lebanon. Citing sources within the Israeli military, the Israeli newspaper Haaretz stated that the army has not been ordered to retreat from any Lebanese territory.

Haaretz further clarified that the Israeli army is not currently stationed in the Zawtar al-Sharqiyah area, a point that political and military entities have referenced as part of the commitments under a framework agreement, suggesting a potential withdrawal from that specific location.

The Israeli military is reportedly attempting to impose a new security reality in southern Lebanon through a plan referred to as “operating in experimental zones.” This strategy aims to allow the Israeli forces to maintain control over occupied areas and avoid disengagement.

Additionally, Israel’s Channel 12 revealed that the agreement between Lebanon and Israel includes a confidential security annex. The channel reported that the explicit request of the Lebanese government is the primary reason for the non-disclosure of the annex’s contents.

Channel 14 also reported that following the signing of the agreement with Lebanon, the security and military establishment in Israel is preparing for an extended period of occupation in Lebanon, potentially lasting for years.

The proposition of “experimental zones” in southern Lebanon is viewed as an attempt by Tel Aviv to suggest coordination with the Lebanese army for the disarmament of Hezbollah. This comes shortly after the United States announced on Friday that a framework agreement had been reached between Lebanon and Israel.
