This special project, ‘Global Media Report,’ highlights a growing trend towards a more inclusive and balanced global order.
R. Muthu Kumar, Editor-in-Chief of The Trinity Mirror and Makkal Kural newspapers and founder of the ‘BRICS Generation’ NGO, described the 20th anniversary as a turning point for global collaboration in an exclusive interview with TV BRICS. He stated that BRICS has evolved over the past two decades from an economic idea into one of the most important voices representing the Global South, noting that approximately 40 countries have signaled their desire to join the group.
Muthu Kumar emphasized that the expansion of membership and partnerships across Asia, Africa, the Middle East, and Latin America indicates a widespread aspiration among nations for a global order that is more inclusive, balanced, and based on collective participation. He asserted that this trend reflects a shift in the international system toward multilateralism, increased country involvement, and joint decision-making on global issues.
The Indian expert also referenced the positions of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, stating that Global South countries must play a more prominent role in shaping international developments by strengthening convergence. Muthu Kumar elaborated on India’s perspective on BRICS, describing it not merely as a diplomatic forum but as a strategic and civilizational opportunity to expand cooperation in crucial trade routes and energy corridors.
He further underscored the role of media in bolstering BRICS cooperation, explaining that platforms like TV BRICS contribute to greater convergence among emerging economies and their coordination in reforming global governance systems, including within the United Nations, by fostering dialogue and connection among the peoples of member countries.
