Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri Denies Syrian Interference Against Hezbollah

Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri has affirmed that Syria is not involved in any potential actions against Hezbollah, dismissing reports of a US-Syria understanding on the matter. This comes amidst Lebanese efforts to clarify discussions between US President Donald Trump and Syrian interim President Ahmad al-Shar’a concerning Lebanon.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Al-Akhbar newspaper reported that amid Lebanese circles’ efforts to ascertain the truth behind discussions between US President Donald Trump and Syrian interim President Ahmad al-Shar’a regarding Lebanon, and Trump’s alleged statements about al-Shar’a’s commitments to assist in confronting Hezbollah, Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri emphasized that Syria has no involvement in this issue.

Berri told Al-Akhbar that all matters were discussed with complete clarity during his meeting last week with Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani.

He stressed: “Ultimately, we must refer to what was mentioned about Lebanon in the memorandum of understanding between Iran and the United States.”
In related developments, circles and sources close to Ain el-Tineh revealed that the relationship between Berri and the President of Lebanon remains extremely strained. Efforts by Saudi envoy Yazid bin Farhan have thus far only resulted in limited communication between Andre Rahal, advisor to General Joseph Aoun, and Parliament Member Ali Hassan Khalil, with no progress made on the disputed issues.
