Iraq Seizes 375 Kilograms of Gold and Tens of Millions of Dollars in Corruption Probe

Iraqi judicial authorities have announced the seizure of 375 kilograms of gold and assets valued at approximately $52.6 million as part of a widening corruption investigation targeting former oil ministry officials.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Iraqi judicial bodies, in coordination with the Kurdistan Region and under the supervision of Faiq Zeidan, head of the Supreme Judicial Council, have confiscated 358 kilograms of gold in connection with the case of Adnan Al-Jamilly, the detained deputy oil minister for refining affairs. An additional 17 kilograms of gold were discovered in a separate investigation, bringing the total confiscated gold to 375 kilograms. These gold shipments have been handed over to the Department of Printing and Treasury of the Central Bank of Iraq.

In a separate statement, the media center of the judicial apparatus revealed that the Nineveh Investigation Court has issued orders to seize nine commercial properties and three flour production factories in the city of Mosul as part of the investigation into Al-Jamilly’s case. The total value of these properties and factories is estimated at approximately 69 billion Iraqi dinars, equivalent to about $52.6 million. Furthermore, seven modern trucks, each valued at approximately $200,000, have also been seized.

The judicial media center noted that fugitive defendants had registered these assets under the names of their employees in an attempt to evade the law and conceal the illicit origins of their wealth. The court has decided to appoint a judicial administrator to manage these properties and factories, which are considered productive and profitable assets, to preserve them and collect any profits generated for the benefit of the state.

The Supreme Judicial Council of Iraq has emphasized its commitment to continuing the pursuit of fugitive defendants, reclaiming movable and immovable assets derived from corruption offenses, and prosecuting all individuals involved in accordance with the law. These actions are unfolding within the framework of the investigation into Adnan Al-Jamilly, who was dismissed from his post on June 2, 2026, due to suspicions of squandering public funds, entering into illegal contracts, and money laundering. In recent days, the Iraqi judiciary had reported the arrest of dozens of individuals suspected of financial and administrative corruption linked to this case, including members of parliament and executive officials whose immunity was revoked to facilitate the investigation.
