Netanyahu Concedes to Orthodox Demands to Stabilize Fragile Israeli Government

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has made significant concessions to ultra-Orthodox parties, including legalizing exemptions from mandatory military service for yeshiva students, in a move aimed at preventing the collapse of his coalition government amidst deepening internal crises.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the Israeli regime is grappling with profound structural crises and unprecedented internal divisions. In an effort to avert the disintegration of his coalition cabinet, Benjamin Netanyahu has initiated a major retreat.

The Israeli Knesset, in a move that exacerbates the rift between the political and military establishments of the regime, has passed controversial legislation making exemptions from mandatory military service for students of religious schools, known as Haredim, legal. The new laws enshrine “Torah study” as a fundamental value within the regime’s legal framework, concurrently approving a plan to halt the arrest of Haredim evading military conscription.

Political observers interpret Netanyahu’s actions not as a matter of conviction, but as a desperate attempt to appease Orthodox parties within the ruling coalition and thereby forestall the government’s downfall. This decision has ignited the ire of numerous opponents and military institutions, underscoring Netanyahu’s prioritization of “remaining in power” over the strategic requirements of the Israeli military.

The passage of these laws comes at a time when Tel Aviv is more embroiled in internal political disputes than ever before, with the current government navigating a path towards potentially early and perilous elections.
