US Democrats Warn Trump Administration’s Sanctions Turning Cuba into ‘Silent Gaza’

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, a group of Democratic members of the U.S. Congress who recently visited Cuba have stated that energy sanctions imposed on the country by U.S. President Donald Trump have effectively turned Cuba into a ‘silent Gaza.’ The lawmakers cited data published by the Mehr News Agency, quoting RT.
The United States imposed energy and oil sanctions on Cuba in January following the alleged abduction of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro. Washington had also threatened to impose tariffs on other countries supplying fuel to Cuba, a move that has intensified the humanitarian and economic crisis on the island.
The visiting delegation included Representatives Mark Pocan of Wisconsin, Teresa Leger Fernandez of New Mexico, Maxine Waters of Oregon, and Delia Catalina Ramirez of Illinois. They arrived in Cuba last Thursday.
Pocan commented that U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio is handling the Cuba issue with personal motivations rather than a professional approach. Pocan suggested that Rubio, as the son of Cuban immigrants raised in Miami and influenced by anti-Castro exile groups, does not approach the matter professionally.
Cuba has experienced several nationwide power outages, and access to medical services has become difficult as a result of the ongoing crisis.
