IAEA Chief Grossi Emphasizes Diplomacy to Resolve Iran Nuclear Program Issues
According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Rafael Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), stated at a press conference following the commencement of the Board of Governors meeting that the agency seeks to continue cooperation with Iran and that the path of diplomacy and negotiation must be reactivated to resolve matters related to Tehran’s nuclear program.
Grossi addressed the current state of cooperation between Iran and the IAEA, noting that agency inspectors have returned to Iran but require greater engagement and collaboration to fully resume verification activities. He claimed that the present situation prevents the IAEA from obtaining a complete picture of certain Iranian nuclear materials and facilities.
Regarding Iran’s uranium stockpiles, the IAEA Director General indicated that the agency continues to face ambiguities concerning the status of declared nuclear materials, including uranium enriched up to 60 percent. He suggested that a prolonged continuation of this situation could impede the agency’s ability to reconstruct information and accurately assess Iran’s nuclear activities.
On the subject of Board of Governors resolutions, Grossi asserted that his approach to their implementation is impartial and that the agency carries out its duties based on its technical and safeguard mission.
He also underscored the necessity of finding a diplomatic solution, stating that resolving the remaining issues concerning Iran’s nuclear program is impossible without dialogue and negotiation. Grossi added that the IAEA is prepared to support any diplomatic process that emerges.
The IAEA Director General also commented on Iran’s nuclear facilities, emphasizing the fundamental importance of on-site access and verification. He stated that necessary arrangements must be established between Tehran and the IAEA to reinstate the full level of inspections.
In response to questions regarding attacks on Iranian nuclear facilities, Grossi, without condemning the actions of the United States and the Zionist regime, stressed the importance of adhering to nuclear safety and security principles. He affirmed that the IAEA will continue its work to resolve existing issues with Iran.
