Speaking to reporters in Dublin on Saturday following a meeting with Irish President Catherine Connolly, Trump responded to a question about potential U.S. assistance in facilitating vessel traffic in the Strait of Hormuz by asserting, “Everything will go very well.” These remarks come at a time when concerns about reduced traffic and disruptions to shipping in the region have escalated.

Trump also provocatively reiterated his assertion that the Strait of Hormuz is under American control, adding that Iran cannot acquire nuclear weapons. Addressing the public sentiment in the United States regarding the duration of the conflict with Iran, he suggested, “I think very soon. I think probably right after the midterm elections.” He claimed that Iran is attempting to prolong the war to complicate the U.S. elections.
