Erdogan Declares Gaza World’s Largest Child Cemetery Amid UN Address
According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan stated at the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly that Gaza has transformed into the largest cemetery for children globally. He expressed regret over Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas’s inability to attend the assembly for two consecutive years.
President Erdogan urged countries that have not yet recognized the State of Palestine to reconsider their positions. He highlighted that over 74,000 people have been lost in Gaza due to Israeli state terrorism in the past three years, describing Gaza as a death camp and the largest child cemetery worldwide. The President also noted that the West Bank is suffering from settler violence and terrorism, with Muslims being denied access to their holy sites.
He further asserted that the United Nations, established for peace and security, is either incapable of fulfilling its role or is being prevented from doing so. Erdogan reported that the number of martyrs in Gaza has surpassed 1,500 since the ceasefire, characterizing Gaza as the largest prison in an era devoid of humanity, which he deemed shameful. He added that while the Palestinian resistance agreed to a second phase of a peace plan, Israel continues to refuse to end its occupation.
The Turkish President emphasized that an international order based solely on five permanent members cannot constitute a just system. He reiterated that the West Bank is experiencing a severe surge in what is considered settler violence and terrorism. Erdogan also mentioned that Muslims and Christians in Jerusalem are being barred from accessing their holy sites, and there are ongoing efforts to undermine UNRWA. He warned of a genocidal mindset that is insatiable and pointed to a highly dangerous situation ahead.
Erdogan concluded by stating that the United Nations has become incapacitated and continues to weaken, stressing the urgent need to commence the reconstruction of Gaza. He reaffirmed Turkey’s commitment to implementing the Gaza agreement signed a year prior in Sharm El Sheikh. Additionally, he announced the formation of a defense alliance with Saudi Arabia and Pakistan to bolster solidarity and address regional issues internally, stating that continued conflicts benefit no one.
