Russia Skeptical of Ukraine’s Negotiation Readiness, Questions UN Chief’s Role

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Russia‘s Deputy Foreign Minister, Alexander Alimov, stated in an interview with RIA Novosti that Moscow would consider any proposal from Ukraine for a meeting on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.

However, Alimov expressed significant skepticism regarding the readiness of the current Ukrainian leadership to engage in negotiations and reach an agreement. He further commented that the position of UN Secretary-General António Guterres on the Ukraine crisis holds little importance, asserting that none of his initiatives have been appropriate or constructive.

The Russian Deputy Foreign Minister added that Russia hopes the UN’s performance concerning Ukraine will be fundamentally reviewed, as its activities in this area have been unsuccessful. Moscow intends to call on the new UN Secretary-General to reconsider the organization’s biased approach toward Ukraine.

Alimov concluded by noting that the possibility of UN mediation for resolving the situation in Ukraine currently faces serious doubts.
