China Urges Japan to Correct Taiwan Stance Amid Rising Tensions

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with former Japanese Foreign Minister Takeshi Iwaya, stating that relations between the two countries have once again encountered a “serious situation” and require a return to normalcy. Wang urged Japan to promptly correct the erroneous statements and actions of its leaders regarding Taiwan. He also warned against challenging Japan’s peaceful constitution and attempting to “revive war criminals.” Tensions between the two nations have escalated since November of the previous year, following comments made by Sanae Takaichi, the former Prime Minister of Japan, concerning the possibility of a Chinese attack on Taiwan and Japan’s potential use of its right to collective self-defense. Concurrently, Japan has announced that the American “Typhoon” missile system will be transferred to Kadena Air Base in Okinawa in mid-October, a move that China has previously criticized.
