Russian Envoy Warns of EU’s Push Toward Direct Confrontation

A senior Russian diplomat has voiced concerns that European officials are actively steering the European Union towards a direct confrontation with Russia. The envoy criticized proposals for member states to transfer air defense interceptor missiles to Ukraine as a dangerous escalation.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Rodion Miroshnik, Russia‘s Special Representative for Diplomatic Missions, stated in an interview with RIA Novosti that the efforts by Kaja Kallas, the EU’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, and other European officials to draw their countries and the bloc into a direct confrontation with Russia represent a threatening trend.

Miroshnik, responding to Kallas’s recent suggestion that EU member states should transfer air defense interceptor missiles to Ukraine, asserted that European officials are making every effort to involve their nations and the entire European Union in a direct confrontation with Russia.

He added, “It is concerning that European leaders, instead of seeking a path for peaceful conflict resolution, are continuously taking steps toward escalating tensions.”

The Russian official also highlighted the West’s double standards regarding nuclear security. He noted that Western countries supporting Ukraine, while participating in international mechanisms related to nuclear security, are disregarding some of their international commitments and agreements.
