Omani Official Disputes Flydubai Incident Narrative, Citing Security Inconsistencies

A former Omani parliamentarian has questioned the official account of a recent Flydubai incident, asserting that the alleged use of an axe by the co-pilot contradicts security protocols and points to a fabricated scenario. Investigations in the UAE indicate the co-pilot intended a terror operation.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Ahmad Mubarak Al-Hadhri, a former member of the Shura Council of Oman, stated on social media that the Israeli regime’s claims regarding the Flydubai incident are a ridiculous and laughable scenario. This scenario alleges that the assailant attacked using an axe inside the cockpit. Al-Hadhri questioned how such an axe could be brought through security checkpoints or if new aircraft are equipped with passenger axes, suggesting these questions reveal a fabricated claim aimed at benefiting Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu amidst his critical situation.

Al-Hadhri further stated that Omani officials consider travel by citizens to the occupied territories a crime. Tel Aviv also imposes complex security conditions to prevent the presence of staff from countries that do not have relations with the regime. He questioned how a pilot from a country without relations with Israel could pass through security filters, especially during the current regional conflict.

He continued by noting that the diversion to Saudi Arabia and landing there, despite Jordan’s airspace being closer, was a malicious attempt to portray Riyadh as a party normalizing relations. Al-Hadhri asserted that this is not an aviation incident but rather an intelligence operation orchestrated by criminal allies to save an isolated prime minister.

The UAE Attorney General announced that investigations into the Flydubai incident revealed that the co-pilot intended to carry out a terrorist operation. He added that the co-pilot attacked the pilot with an axe and intended to seize control of the aircraft.

A spokesperson for Flydubai confirmed that the circumstances surrounding the incident are still under investigation. ABC News reported that Hammam Al-Hamami, identified as the suspect in the Flydubai incident, is a 29-year-old Omani national. He was born in the UAE to a Syrian mother and holds Omani citizenship. Al-Hamami had resided in the UAE for several years.
