Russia Eyes Resuming Direct Air Links with Cuba Amidst Favorable Conditions

Russia has confirmed that resuming direct air travel with Cuba remains on the agenda, contingent on the fulfillment of several necessary conditions, including the stabilization of the current challenging circumstances in Cuba.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Russia is actively considering the resumption of direct air communication with Cuba. Aleksandr Shetinin, Director of the Latin America Department at the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated in an interview with RIA Novosti that the re-establishment of direct flights between Moscow and Havana is still a priority, though it necessitates the satisfaction of a range of specific conditions.

Responding to inquiries about progress in this area, Shetinin indicated that the matter is intrinsically linked to the difficult conditions currently being observed in Cuba. He reiterated that the resumption of air service is under consideration but emphasized that it depends on the emergence of essential prerequisites. He expressed hope that as the situation evolves, these obstacles would be overcome.

Further elaborating on the situation, Luis Roberto Reyes Hernández, First Deputy Minister of Transport of Cuba, informed RIA Novosti that both Moscow and Havana are engaged in cooperative efforts to restart air connectivity. However, he identified a shortage of aviation fuel in Cuba as a significant impediment to the resumption of flights.
