Russian Official Criticizes EU Policies, Cites Public Dissatisfaction and Militarization

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Valentina Matviyenko, Chairwoman of the Federation Council of Russia, stated in a press conference that the European Union is transforming into a military bloc, a development that has left citizens of member states dissatisfied. Quoting TASS, Matviyenko pointed to protests occurring in various European countries, including France, as evidence of citizens taking to the streets out of desperation to protest against the EU’s bureaucracy. She argued that this bureaucracy has effectively stripped European nations of their sovereignty.
The Russian official explained that people are protesting because their current politicians are not fighting for their countries’ national interests. Instead, she asserted, some are addressing geopolitical issues manufactured by others in an effort to maintain their own hegemony. Furthermore, Matviyenko expressed concern over the militarization of Europe, noting that while the EU was ostensibly established to improve public welfare, it is now moving towards becoming a military entity.
The Chairwoman of the Federation Council of Russia emphasized that these trends are deeply troubling. She called for understanding the European populace, stating that they have been left with no alternatives and their voices are not being heard by current political leaders.
