European Union Faces Severe Gas Shortage Ahead of Winter

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Politico, citing data from the U.S. Energy Information Administration, has reported that the European Union is facing a gas shortage this winter and may need to urgently find replacements for lost energy volumes.
The publication noted that gas reserves in the EU’s underground storage facilities are currently slightly above 70 percent, marking the lowest level at the start of winter since 2011.
Following a reduction in Russian gas imports after the commencement of the war in Ukraine, the European Union has pursued diversification of import sources, increased liquefied natural gas (LNG) imports, and focused on gas consumption reduction to meet its energy needs.
However, with the 2026-2027 winter approaching, Europe’s gas reserve levels are below the average of previous years. Increased import demand and concerns over supply disruptions have made the continent’s market vulnerable to price fluctuations.
