Kremlin Rejects 60-Day Ceasefire Proposal, Seeks Lasting Peace

The Kremlin has rejected Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s proposal for a 60-day ceasefire, stating that Russia seeks a sustainable peace agreement rather than temporary truces.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the Kremlin announced on Monday that Russia is pursuing a lasting peace agreement instead of a temporary ceasefire. Dmitry Peskov, the Kremlin spokesperson, informed reporters that President Putin and Russian officials at various levels have repeatedly stated their desire for long-term peace and readiness to undertake all possible actions to achieve it.

This statement comes after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy requested Putin’s agreement to a full 60-day ceasefire in an interview with ABC News on Sunday, aiming to allow Ukraine to hold presidential elections. Russia has consistently urged Ukraine to conduct elections, arguing that the failure to do so calls Zelenskyy’s legitimacy into question. However, Ukrainian law prohibits the holding of elections during the imposition of martial law.
