Trump Advisors Delay Russia Trip Amid Strained Ukraine Relations

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, as reported by Al Jazeera and cited by Mehr News Agency, The New York Times announced that Steve Witkoff, President Trump’s Special Envoy for the Middle East, and Jared Kushner, the President’s son-in-law and advisor, have delayed their trip to Russia pending an improvement in the relationship between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and U.S. President Donald Trump.
This announcement follows a previous report from The Wall Street Journal, another American publication, which stated that the relationship between U.S. President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is at its lowest point since their public dispute at the White House in February of the previous year.
The European Union’s efforts to persuade Trump to continue aid to Kyiv may be undermined by the current situation. The Wall Street Journal noted that Trump has repeatedly urged Kyiv over the past month to cease attacks on Russian oil refineries and has expressed dissatisfaction with Zelensky’s reluctance to make concessions.
A primary concern for Ukraine is that Washington might halt intelligence sharing with Kyiv amidst escalating disagreements. The deterioration of relations between Washington and Kyiv could impede the nearly 18-month effort by European countries to maintain U.S. support for Ukraine and increase pressure on Moscow.
Reports indicate that an agreement between Trump and Putin regarding the supply of Russian diesel fuel, coupled with Trump’s subsequent remarks on the necessity of new leadership in Ukraine, has exacerbated the existing differences between the two sides.
