According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Amir of Qatar, has unveiled a comprehensive investment plan projected at approximately 221 billion Qatari riyals, equivalent to $60.71 billion, over the next five years. Speaking at the Shura Council’s annual session, the Amir asserted that Qatar has successfully managed the repercussions of the regional crisis, reducing public expenditures without compromising essential services or development priorities. He noted that the country’s economy, fortified by a strong foundation, experienced a real growth of 2.9 percent in 2025, with inflation remaining at a stable 0.5 percent.

Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani emphasized Qatar’s pivotal role in the global liquefied natural gas (LNG) market, controlling about one-fifth of international trade. He stated that any disruptions affecting Qatar would inevitably resonate across global markets and impact consumers worldwide. The Amir pointed to the closure of the Strait of Hormuz and damage to energy facilities in Ras Laffan Industrial City as factors that have impeded significant export volumes, leading to a 42 percent decrease in total revenues during the first half of the year, which naturally affected public finances.

The Amir announced that the North Field gas field expansion project is progressing as scheduled to boost Qatar’s LNG production capacity. He also highlighted the significant advancements in the Golden Pass project in the United States and the expanding international investments and partnerships of Qatar Energy. Furthermore, Qatar is committed to fostering the growth of its non-hydrocarbon sectors, with the aim of these sectors contributing approximately 80 percent to the real gross domestic product.

In line with digital transformation efforts, over 360 new digital initiatives have been developed, and the central data center project has entered its operational integration phase. Regarding food security, the Amir reaffirmed Qatar’s continued support for domestic agricultural production and its commitment to strengthening national capabilities in this area.

Addressing recent regional developments, the Amir stated that Qatar and other regional nations have faced extraordinary events that have underscored the resilience of the country’s state institutions. He outlined Qatar’s crisis strategy, built on four pillars: resolute defense of the homeland without resorting to war, maintaining services and supply chains, actively participating in ceasefire efforts and the reopening of waterways, and encouraging negotiations for peaceful conflict resolution. He expressed confidence that Qatar will emerge from the crisis more resilient and better equipped to adapt to global changes.

The Amir reiterated that regional and global security are interconnected, and instability in one region cannot be isolated from developments in others. He stressed Qatar’s steadfast commitment to defending the nation while actively avoiding escalation into conflict, emphasizing that adherence to dialogue and peaceful solutions does not equate to compromising national defense and sovereignty. He also highlighted Qatar’s participation in efforts to de-escalate tensions, support ceasefires, and facilitate the opening of maritime passages.

On the economic front, the Amir noted that the government’s decision to avoid reducing essential services and altering development priorities has helped maintain economic momentum. The North Field expansion project continues to advance according to plan to increase LNG output.

The Amir underscored the importance of sustained cooperation and coordination among the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states, asserting that recent events have reaffirmed the necessity of these collaborative efforts. He also condemned the events in the Gaza Strip as genocide, calling for accountability for those responsible. Furthermore, he warned against the escalating attacks by Zionist settlers on Palestinians in the West Bank and the recurrent incursions into Al-Aqsa Mosque.
