US Defense Secretary Claims Effective Control of Strait of Hormuz Amid Protests

U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth asserted the United States maintains effective control over the Strait of Hormuz, echoing claims of preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons, while protesters interrupted his speech to denounce the Trump administration’s war-mongering policies.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth reiterated the claim that the United States is preventing Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons, asserting that his country’s actions in the Strait of Hormuz are effective. Hegseth, without addressing the peaceful nature of Tehran’s nuclear program, stated, “It is the responsibility of President Trump and me to take any necessary action to ensure that Iran does not acquire nuclear weapons.”

Pete Hegseth then claimed, for the purpose of election campaigning ahead of the U.S. midterm congressional elections, “We currently have effective control over the Strait of Hormuz.”

The assertion by U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth comes at a time when oil prices have set new records due to the U.S.’s provocative actions and the insecurity created in the strategic Strait of Hormuz.

Furthermore, during his speech, several protesters voiced the American public’s opposition to the Trump administration’s warmongering with shouts. One protester exclaimed, “You are killing our families! You are not a warrior, you are a coward!”
