Trump Defends Delaying Sanctions on Russia Over Hostage Deal

U.S. President Donald Trump defended his decision not to immediately impose sanctions on Russia, stating that the move was part of negotiations to secure the release of American citizen Steven Hubbard. The president announced the development via his social media platform, Truth Social, ahead of the midterm congressional elections.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, U.S. President Donald Trump, acknowledging his precarious standing among Americans, took to his social media platform, Truth Social, ahead of the midterm congressional elections. In a message that reiterated his characteristic self-centeredness, he declared: “Many people who were calling for immediate sanctions against Russia have called and apologized to President Trump; because they did not know he was negotiating for the release of ‘Steven Hubbard’.”

The U.S. President continued: “An action that is considered a very big and important deal for the United States. If sanctions had been imposed, those negotiations would undoubtedly have stopped completely and definitively.”

This development comes as U.S. envoy Steve Whitcoff met with Steven Hubbard, the American citizen released by Russia, in Moscow today.
