Former Pentagon Official Warns of Anti-Zionist Regional Coalition and Tel Aviv Dependence on Washington

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, retired U.S. Army Colonel and former senior defense advisor Douglas Macgregor has warned about the future of the Zionist regime and the evolving power balance in the Middle East, pointing to regional maneuvers aimed at establishing a defensive coalition against Tel Aviv alongside signs of waning U.S. hegemony that could present unprecedented challenges for Israel.
Citing the Zionist daily Maariv, Macgregor stated that from Iran’s perspective, the Israeli regime would be incapable of sustaining itself in the Middle East without a direct U.S. military presence, noting that Tel Aviv’s strategic strength is inextricably tied to Washington’s unwavering political and military backing.
The former American military official highlighted a recent four-way meeting in Tehran involving regional officials, where discussions reportedly focused on formulating a joint defense plan to counter the Israeli regime and thwart the Greater Israel project, although formal details of the gathering have not been publicly disclosed.
According to the former U.S. official, Tehran has prioritized expelling United States forces from the western shores of the Persian Gulf and dismantling the remaining American military bases across the region.
He added that while Israel relies heavily on American power and prestige for its survival, Washington’s own policies have severely damaged that standing, and any future regional conflict could further erode the remnants of American influence.
Addressing the security concerns of Persian Gulf nations regarding Iran’s rising power, Macgregor noted that Saudi Arabia is actively seeking to offer concessions to Tehran in order to manage tensions and prevent further potential losses.
Nevertheless, he cautioned that an understanding between Riyadh and Tehran does not necessarily guarantee an end to Houthi operations in Yemen, as they may persist in pressuring Saudi Arabia until their strategic objectives are fully met.
In concluding remarks, Macgregor emphasized that Iran remains firmly opposed to the establishment of new American military bases in the region, viewing the continued U.S. presence as a direct threat and an instrument designed to encircle and contain Iranian influence.
