Commercial shipping operators and vessel captains are increasingly reaching out to Yemeni military authorities via email to request safe transit through the strategic waters of the Red Sea, as reported by The Wall Street Journal.

Based on the findings, shipping companies submit detailed specifications of their vessels, along with information regarding the owners and individuals on board, to the humanitarian coordination center affiliated with the Yemeni armed forces. During this process, applicants explicitly state that they maintain no connections to the United States, the United Kingdom, or Israel.

The coordination body, which commenced its operations in early 2024, carefully evaluates incoming requests and typically responds within a 24-hour window. In certain instances, authorities grant multi-day transit permits valid for up to one week.

The report further highlights specific examples of commercial vessels that successfully navigated the Red Sea route after completing the required notification procedures and complying with the regulatory guidelines established by Yemeni forces.
