According to the report of the Ministry of Defense of Russia, current international and regional security issues as well as further cooperation between defense structures in the form of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization are to be discussed in this meeting.

At the end of March, Kazakh President Kassem Jomart Tokayev announced that all the leaders of the member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization plan to participate in the summit of this regional alliance, which is to be held in Astana. He reminded that the theme of this summit will be “Strengthening multilateral dialogues – striving for peace and sustainable development”.

The Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit will be held in Astana on July 3-4. One of the key results of this meeting will be the signing of the joint decision of the Shanghai members on the membership of Belarus in this organization. Thus, after this republic joins this alliance, the number of member countries of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization will increase to 10 countries.

Shanghai Cooperation Organization is an international organization established in June 2001 by the leaders of Russia, China , Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan were created. Then, in 2017, India and Pakistan joined the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, and last year, the Islamic Republic of Iran became a member of this organization.
