Europe wants to punish Orban for meeting with Putin and Trump

Balint Odor, Hungary’s representative to the European Union, faced severe criticism from his colleagues during a two-hour meeting on July 10. Two EU diplomats told the publication that several EU representatives threatened Hungary with “serious consequences” if Viktor Orbán continued on his current course.

According to Politico, this newspaper says: “The most immediate option could be to boycott the informal meetings of ministers that are held in Budapest, the capital of Hungary.”

This publication noted that a number of ambassadors had on July 10 supported a boycott of the informal meeting of EU foreign ministers in Budapest at the end of August. Politico noted: The first meeting of the Council of Europe was held on July 9 in Hungary with the presence of only 7 of the 27 confederation countries, not counting the hosts of the event.

According to this publication, if Orban continues to cross European red lines and his political path with politicians unacceptable to Brussels like Putin, he may face worse consequences.

Earlier, the Bloomberg news agency, citing sources, reported that Orban will meet with Trump on Thursday after the end of the NATO meeting at the Mar-a-Lago property in Florida.

This newspaper quotes three sources familiar with the preparations for this summit: He actually avoided Joe Biden at this week’s NATO summit and did not request a bilateral meeting with the US president.
