Kremlin: No message sent through Orban to Trump

Dmitry Peskov, the Kremlin spokesman, denied on Friday that Russian President Vladimir Putin sent any letter or message to his American counterpart, Donald Trump, through Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban.

Peskov said in a press conference that Putin was unaware of Orban’s meeting with Trump after the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) summit in Washington. 

Earlier, the Kremlin emphasized that Putin and Trump do not have a direct conversation about Russia’s military operations in Ukraine.

Pskov’s statements came after Orban met with Putin in Russia in a short period of time, and then was a guest of Trump at his personal villa in Florida. After the meeting, Trump demanded to find a quick solution to achieve peace in Ukraine, which is somewhat consistent with Hungary’s wishes.

European Union countries may respond to the Hungarian Prime Minister’s visit to Russia and punish him. Earlier, Bloomberg reported, citing sources, that Orban will meet with Trump on Thursday after the conclusion of the NATO meeting at the Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida. He refused to meet with Joe Biden on the sidelines of the NATO meeting.
