Druze around Damascus handed over their weapons
Residents of “Deir Ali,” a predominantly Druze city near western damascus, hand over the first batch of their weapons to the forces governing Damascus.
According to a report by the English section of Webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and Sputnik, Mouaid Hamdan, a prominent figure in Deir Ali, stated in an interview with Sputnik that after a meeting among the Druze leaders of the city, they decided to surrender the weapons present in the area. He emphasized: “Weapons have no place outside the framework of the state and government security forces.”
Hamdan claimed: “The existing weapons where meant to protect the residents of this city. Now that security is established and government security forces are present, there is no need for these arms.”
Yesterday, Druze sheikhs in Syria’s Sweida issued a statement reaffirming their commitment to implementing outcomes from their two-day meeting and adhering to service and security provisions.
The statement stressed the urgent need to lift blockades on Sweida’s regions—including Jaramana, Sahnaya, and Ashrafiyat Sahnaya—and ensure immediate security along the Damascus-Sweida road.
