Colombian Presidential Candidate Assassinated + Video
According to webangah News Agency, 39-year-old Senator Miguel Uribe, a conservative opposition politician running for Colombia’s presidency in 2026, was shot during a campaign rally at a public park in Bogotá’s Fontibón district.
The Democratic Center Party – founded by former President Álvaro Uribe – stated armed assailants fired at the senator, with one bullet striking his back.
Medical reports indicate Uribe remains in critical condition following the shooting. Authorities confirm one suspect has been arrested while investigations continue.
Defense Minister Pedro Sánchez visited the hospitalized senator and vowed full accountability. Colombia’s presidency condemned the attack,demanding immediate examination.
Though sharing surnames, Miguel Uribe has no familial relation to ex-President Álvaro Uribe.The wounded senator comes from a prominent family tied to Colombia’s Liberal party - his late mother Diana Turbay,a renowned journalist,was killed during her 1990 kidnapping by Pablo Escobar’s cartel forces.
