Senior Israeli Official: No Progress Made in Negotiations Over Past 24 Hours
according to the English section of webangah news Agency, citing Mehr news Agency, the American news outlet Axios reported that the Israeli negotiation team remains in Doha, Qatar’s capital. Though, Steve Witkoff, former US Special Envoy for Middle East affairs under Donald Trump, has not yet traveled to the region.
The report cites American sources describing ongoing disagreements and complexities surrounding a ceasefire and post-conflict arrangements in Gaza.
Israel continues to insist on establishing a ”buffer zone” along Gaza’s borders-2 to 3 kilometers deep near Rafah and 1 to 2 kilometers elsewhere. This demand remains one of the main obstacles preventing a final agreement.
American sources told Axios that Washington has proposed focusing current talks on two issues: prisoner lists and how humanitarian aid will be distributed within Gaza.
Under the US-proposed terms, the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza will not be addressed at this stage. Discussions on this matter are planned only after reaching consensus on other major points.
