Lebanese Official Accuses Israel of Deliberately Stalling Maritime Border Negotiations

A senior Lebanese official has accused Israel of intentionally delaying progress in maritime border negotiations, suggesting Tel Aviv is seeking political gains ahead of upcoming elections. Beirut is reportedly working to prevent a deterioration of the situation on the ground.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, a senior Lebanese official emphasized that the Israeli regime is deliberately wasting time and obstructing negotiations, aiming to achieve breakthroughs for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu amidst upcoming parliamentary elections in Israel and the US midterm elections in November. This process, the official noted, is delaying the implementation of the agreement signed between Beirut and Tel Aviv. Lebanese officials are striving to prevent a worsening of the situation on the ground, particularly in the Al-Tahir heights.

The Lebanese official claimed that the Beirut government has no option but to continue negotiations to manage Netanyahu’s actions, and it is unlikely that Beirut will halt these discussions. It is important to note that the agreement signed between the Western-aligned government of Beirut and the Israeli regime has not only failed to halt Israeli aggressions but has also solidified the regime’s occupation in southern Lebanon.
