Erdogan Calls Jolani: Israeli Attacks Pose Threat to Region
According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and Al Jazeera, the Turkish presidential office announced that President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan held a phone conversation with Abu Muhammad al-Jolani (Ahmad al-Shara), interim leader of Syrian governance, to discuss recent developments following Israeli attacks on Syria.
The statement said Erdoğan stressed that israel’s strikes on Syria are unacceptable.
He described Israel’s aggression as a threat to the entire region. Erdoğan affirmed Turkey’s continued support for the Syrian people and expressed backing for the ceasefire reached with Druze communities in Syria.
In related news, SANA news agency cited local sources reporting that outlawed groups have committed numerous crimes against civilians and tribes in Syria’s Suwayda countryside.
Simultaneously occurring,today Abu Muhammad al-Jolani responded to Israeli attacks without mentioning his own efforts to establish ties with Israel. He stated, “We are inhabitants of this land capable of thwarting Israeli moves aimed at dividing our country. Syria is not a testing ground for foreign conspiracies or others’ ambitions. Building a new Syria requires unity around the homeland.”
Al-Jolani emphasized that Druze constitute an essential part of Syrian society and their defense remains a top priority.
He added, “We decided to entrust security in Suwayda to certain local groups and tribal sheikhs. Between war with Israel and granting Druze leaders an opportunity for reconciliation, we chose protecting our country.”
